  관련 규칙에는 투수판을 밟고 있는 투수는 베이스로 송구하기 전에 베이스쪽으로 똑바로 자유발을 내딛어야 한다는 설명이 있습니다.
  송구에 대해서는 베이스로 ‘똑바로’ 송구하라는 말이 없어 의견이 분분할 수 있습니다.
  그러나 ‘베이스에 송구하기 전...’이라는 글에서 베이스를 향해 던져야 하는 것으로 풀이하고 있습니다.
  이에 대해 우리 규칙에는 부연 설명이 없으나 MLB나 Minor Umpire Manual에는 다음과 같이 설명하고 있으니 참조하시기 바랍니다.
  
  57. Balk regulations (Major)
  6.19 Balk Regulations(Minor)
  a. The pitcher shall be charged with a balk if, while in contact with the rubber, he attempts a pickoff at first or third base and throws to the fielder who is either in front of or behind the base and obviously not making an attempt at retiring the runner. However, there is no violation if the pitcher throws the ball directly to first or third base in this situation. Also note that there is no violation if the pitcher attempts a pickoff at second base and throws to an infielder who is in front of or behind the base (i.e., this violation is only in reference to pickoffs at first and third base).
  b. There is no violation if a pitcher attempts a pickoff at second base and seeing no fielder covering the bag, throws to the shortstop or second baseman, neither of whom is in the vicinity of the bag nor is making an actual attempt to retire the runner. 6.02(a)
  
  a. 투수판을 밟고 있는 투수가 픽오프를 위해 1루나 3루로 송구를 시도할 때 1,3루의 앞이나 뒤에 있는 야수에게 던져(즉, 베이스에 있지 않은 야수에게) 명백히 주자를 아웃시키려는 송구 시도가 아니라고 판단하면 보크가 선언된다. 그러나 이 상황(야수가 베이스에 있지 않은 상황)에서 투수가 베이스를 향해 송구하면 페널티는 없다(보크가 아니다).
  또한 투수가 2루 견제송구시 베이스에 있지 않은 내야수에게 송구하면 페널티는 없다. 이 페널티는 1루와 3루 픽오프 플레이때만 적용한다.
  
  b. 투수가 2루로 픽오프를 시도할 때 베이스에 수비수가 없어 유격수 위치나 2루수 위치에 있는 내야수에게 송구하면 공을 받는 내야수가 베이스 근처에 있지 않아도, 주자를 아웃시키려는 의도가 보이지 않더라도 페널티를 적용하지 않는다.
